Help please!! bullying!!!!
24/11/2008

Hi all, My son is just 4 and in reception class at school, last thursday we got a call asking to collect him as another child in a different reception class has punched him and has cut his eye, so we rushed up there and got him. We were quite contented that this child had been delt with. My son has speech problems and isn't the most confident of children, although this was getting better, Jack would not hurt a fly he doesn't even fight with his sister (not yet anyway), plus he is quite small compared to other children his age. the problem is he came home friday complaining the same child had hit him again, so I wrote a letter put it in his book bag and spoke to one of his teachers the letter wasn't even removed from the bag and yet again my son is complaining about this boy! we have made an appointment to see the headmaster tomorrow. what do we do if things still don't work out. I really like his school and they are helping alot with his speech. thankyou for reading my essay please help any advice welcome!! kirsty

Hi, it sounds like your trying your best to do what you can to support your son. My heart goes out to you! its a horrible feeling when you know your child is experiencing bullying! It is a legal requirement for each school (to include primary) to have an anti bullying policy - you have the right to see this - ask for it. Amongst other things it will detail what action the school HAVE to take when your child is being bullied. Be calm but be firm tomorrow when seeing the Headteacher - your childs education is at stake! make sure they are adhering to the anti bullying policy. You should be able to find your childs school anti bullying policy on the internet - type in the name of the school followed by ........... anti bullying policy. This document will prepare you for your meeting as you can print a copy off or just makes notes on it and refer to it. Ask the head what they are going to put in place to make sure this does not happen again? make sure your son does not suffer as a result of what they suggest i.e. I know of a child that was asked not to come into school until 10am so he could avoid seeing the bully!!! At the end of the meeting ask the Head for another meeting at a later date to enable the action they have taken to be reviewed - if the Head knows that in 3 weeks time (or however long) they are going to see you to discuss any further incidents, your sons progress etc this issue is more likely to be dealt with as the Head knows that at the next meeting if nothing is resolved they will have to explain themselves!! Remember!! your child has the right to go school and feel safe and secure whilst there, to receive an education free of intimidation and fear!! Good Luck, Vicky let me know how you get on

.....had to rush it was teatime! anyway..if you feel the school have helped him with his speech, confidence etc say this tomorrow during the meeting - but tell them his confidence is now being knocked by this situation - if you praise the school before telling them what your not happy with your more likely to get sympathy from them, and somethin done re: this situ. Its a baancing act: you have to try and keep good relations with the school if you can but if all is said and done and further down the line your not happy with how they are handling the situ then ask what their compalints policy is.... I suspect it is that you will then have to put a complaint re: how they are handling the situ to the board of governors!! again, Good luck!!
