Has anyone used Colief?
17/11/2008

Hi! My baby is 5 weeks old and suffers from really bad colic in the evenings. He breaks so much wind, its worse than an adult and seems in so much pain. I've tried dentinox and gripe water, with no success. Heard about colief and wondered if anyone has tried it and found it effective?

Hi, I did use it but found it a bit of a faff, what I did do was used Dr Brown's bottles - they are expensive but are THE best thing I ever bought! I also change milk powder to Aptimil & used the easy to digest formula - also bit more expensive, & both worked from the minute I changed. I would recommend this combination! x

I went the same route as you, with Dentinox and Gripe water. I then spoke to a Pharmacist who recommended Colief and I haven't looked back!! It can be a faff but remembering you can keep made up formula for 2 hours (longer if its out of a Tetra Pack) it's not so much of a pain as a baby with colic. If you find it works you can also get your doctor to do you a prescription for future bottles, as I did. Something else I can recommend from personal experience is a sling to carry baby around whilst your trying to get other things done like make yourself something to eat!! it definitely soothed my baby during his bouts of colic. Good Luck

It could be caused by something in your diet that he is reacting to. Dairy is a common culprit, a lot of breastfeeding mothers find that their baby's "colic" disappears within a few weeks of cutting out dairy from their diet. Or if it isn't dairy you could ask your doctor about how to do an elimination diet to help you pinpoint the exact cause. Sylv, Thomas 4 & Abigail 13 months

Hi Candice, I have used colief and found it a god send, my baby had bad tummy pains, not sure if it was colic, and he found it always hard to burp, so once it was recommed by my chemist I went for it, and now my baby's pain has gone and I have stopped using it. I did also use infacol and dentinox, but found colief the best, yes I know it's expensive but it's worth a try. good luck with it.

Hi Candice.. I've recentley given birth to my 5th baby and he suffered really bad with colic.. I too was advised by a friend to use Colief.. BIG MISTAKE.. it made my little boy seriously ill and that was only with two drops in his bottle.. After further research i have read and been told by both the Midwife and Health Visitor that Colief should only be used on Lactose intolarant Babies. I know every Baby is different but please take care. I bought my Bottle over the counter from Boots Chemist for just under £10 and throw it away.
