imitatiing other kids
30/11/2008

hi, just a quick question - my son who's nearly 3 imitates the voice of my nephew whos 6 mths younger. My son will speak normal in his voice like he does, then all of a sudden will switch to speaking like a little baby! My husband finds this annoying and tells him off! But my son keeps doing it ( sometimes on purpose or sometimes without realising he's doing it). Is this normal? How can i stop him doing that? Thanks x

Hi, the more attention your son is given when he puts on this voice, the more he will do it, its as simple as that. As you know kids do all kinds of things we dont like or think they should be doing, unless he's putting himself in danger, ignore it!! You could try and distract him by playing with him when he starts the voice, dont mention the voice just distract him with his toys etc. If kids get attention by doing something they will do it again, as at the end of the day, attention is attention!! if you do the above - both you and your husband im sure the phase will pass, and be replaced with something else! : ) Good Luck, Vicky
