Hi, all babies are different. At 4 months, generally its not the norm for them to be sleeping through the night. Mine is 14 weeks old, she sleeps from about 8pm till between 3am and 4.30am, has a feed then goes off again. Try not to stress about it, they all get there eventually, like everything else. Vicky

Hi Vicky, My son is 5 months now nearly 6 and I got him in a routine quickly. They say they babies dont understand but I belive they do. My son has his last bottle to bed at 7pm and then i put him to bed, even if he is awake. He will sleep from 7pm until 7am and has had this routine for a while now. Depending on when you give your last bottle about half hour before give your baby a bath. This will let your baby know it has a bath before bed. When you give the bottle to your baby dont have any lights on, or dim lights if you need a light. Have the tv on low. Dont make any eye contact with your baby and dont talk to your baby. Once your baby has been winded put him straight in bed if his awake or not. If you have a cot mobile this helps. It may take a while for this routine to work but trust me it does. If he cries once his gone up wait 5 mins and then 10 mins and so on. I hope this helps you. Good luck Debbie

Hi, my little man didn't sleep through until 6months. I would say its bit early to expect 12hours yet. At 4 months we were still doing a late pm feed before we went to bed & then about 4am. x

Hi, it is possible I was very lucky with all 3 of mine they all went through (12 hours) from 9 weeks, a few tips are rountine and a major one is they have got to go to sleep by themselves so put them in there cot when a wake that way when they wake in the middle of the night they can settle themselves again and also let them have a little cry/gristle don't go straight to them they may not need anything but your instinct tells you to go straight to them! It is hard but as I have said mine have all been good sleepers and also teething hasn't made any difference they still slept through I think its because I like my sleep so I made a BIG effort right from the start!! Hope this helps Deb, Mylo 4, Ozzy 2 and Sunny 8 months

He's still too young. A few babies do sleep through that early, but the majority don't. It's actually not a good idea to let them sleep right through the night that young, because if you don't feed them for a 12 hour stretch you'll end up really engorged and uncomfortable, and it can also cause your milk supply to drop. When my babies were that age I used to feed them around 6pm before putting them to bed, then I'd wake them for a 'dream feed' around 10pm before going to bed myself, and then my daughter would sleep for about a 6 hour stretch before waking for another feed, and that 6 hour stretch gradually got longer as she got older. She started sleeping for a 12 hour stretch at around 8 months, but by then she had started eating some solids so I wasn't too worried about my milk supply dropping. I know right now 8 months probably seems ages away, but trust me the time soon passes! I can hardly believe my little feeding-all-night newborn has now turned into a toddler! My lil boy is 5 months and still doesn't sleep through, I do a dream feed when I go to bed and he's usually up once after midnight before he sleeps through. (but it took til 4 months to be that good!) I, like you worried about it, people kept on telling me that he'd sleep through after 12 weeks, 4 months etc but you have to just go with your baby as they are all so different. My friends lil one has slept through since 8 days! I don't thonk there's a right or wrong way. As some of the other mums suggest a routine is a great thing to get into. We have from the beginning but hey just try and enjoy it. I know how hard it is and it's awful when you can't get any decent periods of sleep ( i did one night where he woke every 1 and a half hours) but eventually you will wake up in a panic because your lil one hasn't woken for a feed. I try to take each night at a time, don't have high expectations or compare them. But I hope your lil one sleeps through soon for you. A big hug from me and my lil man who know what you are going through. T x
