Breastfeeding is not a very effective contraceptive. It works for some people, but I have a few friends who have children only a year apart because they got pregnant again while they were exclusively breastfeeding their first baby. The problem usually happens the other way round, when you get pregnant it can cause your milk supply to dry up, so you might end up needing to give your oldest formula until your second baby is born and your supply picks up again. Some people do manage to breastfeed right the way through pregnancy, but from what I have heard pregnancy usually makes breastfeeding more difficult. Sylv, Thomas 4 & Abigail 13 months
