Hi Julie,
I think potty training has more to do with your child showing the known signs as to the best age. Obviously the older they are the more their understanding of how things are and should be increases. Take my son for e.g he wanted to be trained at 2 years because all his friends at nursery were doing it and he felt left out, peer pressure eh at such an early age! I knew he wasn't entirely ready but he was persistent and we went through many months until he was fully potty trained by 2.5years when my daughter arrived. My daughter is now 2.5years and now has shown interest in using the potty as she tells me when she has done a wee and needs a new nappy. And I thought girls were meant to be more advanced than boys since she started later than my son. However, she has potty trained herself so far so good within 5 days. I just looked out for the signs; she can dress and undress herself, she knows when she wants to do a wee and dislikes being wet or dirty and also when her language became alot clearer and her understanding much better. Before all this we had been reading the Little Princess book about wanting her potty and read other various story books about potty training so she got to know that her other favourite charcters had to learn to drop the nappy and use the potty. She also chose her briefs from woolworths like Dora, Fifi and Disney Princesses. Sorry this is blog is so long but I like you was asking myself that same question a few months ago. I just wished my firstborn was like my daughter in this respect since I remember the hassle we had with him. Bless him. Hope this helps.
