potty is a toy!!!
08/07/2008

my daughter is 22 months now and we have introduced potty training now im not sure she understands the concept of poo and wee i think she does for wee thou... my partner put her on the potty and after having an accident she did do a wee we praised her but she then tried to play with it thinking it was water... we removed it and treid not to tell her off cos she has just met a milestone of using her potty after all now my concern is that our bathroom is really tiny and would be hard to put her on a potty in there, does anyone had any ideas on how i can tackle this cos i dont want her in nappies though the day anymore but dont want to push her either.... i have a normal potty but was wondering if them musical one work well cos i get her one of them she is a clever girl and like music so maybe that might help Thanks sarah and Emily-grace (22months)

Hi, my little girl is 23 months, I have a v.small bathroom too and instead of a potty I have a child toilet seat that goes on top of my own toilet and a little step (I did try with a potty, but it seem to send mix messages, she would sit in the bathroom on a potty next to the toilet, when all she had ever seem me do was sit on the toilet). My little girl prefers this than the potty, she was wary at first, mainly due to wobbling, but after a few goes she knows how to sit right. We have a pile of books to read at the same time (me now using the step as a seat!) and when she does go, she thinks her reward is to get to pull off the toilet paper, press the button (flush) and then use 'mummys' soap to wash her hands, using the step/seat to reach the sink, she now gets the step and seat ready herself. My little girl mastered telling me about needing a poo before a wee, so don't worry if your little one hasn't got the conecpt of pooing yet, they all do it different. Hope this helps :-)
