breast fed baby won't take to expressed milk in bottle
14/07/2008

Don't know if anyone can help but i am breastfeeding my baby and he gets very fussy of an evening, feeding on and off for about 4 hours, someone suggested I express and give him his evening feed in a bottle, the only problem is I can't get him to drink from the bottle, as soon as the teat is in his mouth all he does is cry! I've tried a coupe of different bottles, any suggestions?

Are you giving the your baby the bottle of expressed milk yourself if you are i would suggest giving the bottle of expressed milk to someone else, as the baby will be able to smell your breast milk and wondering why you arent offering the breast. Advice that my midwife gave me did work and gave me a break. Sarah mum to leah aged 2 years 10 months and 41 week baby bump

Hi i agree with Sarah sometimes LO's can get confused when moms offer them the bottle not the breast. The other thing you could try is a soft first cup/beaker that way there is no nipple/teat confusion.

hi, i had this problem with my little girl and i tried different teats, bottles and people. i also tried leaving til i knew she wouild be really hungry but this didn't work either. sorry to say that my only option was to put her on the bottle permently when it got to much for me which she took to really well but this meant i had to stop breast feeding her. the only thing i can tell you is when she did take the bottle she would only drink from the old style latex teats, see if it works and good luck, i hope you achieve it traci and 4 month lily xxx

hi. i do this periodically with my youngest, shes 12wks and we didi it with her sisiter too. i find that if their dad does the feed then its easier as sometines ended in a screaming fit as they coudnt understand why i wasnit feeding them. works wonderfully in the middle of the night when he feeds her this way. with this one i bought the tommee tippee bottlles as the teat is shaped like a breastm as i really struggled wiuth her sisiter to get her to drink form a bottle and in the end the only teat that would work where the mam ones, as again they are shaped. persevere with it if its what you want to do as i had the same problem this ytime that she fussed on and off for most of the night and i couldnt do anything else. just takes a while sometimes for them to cahnge routine.
