I have started giving him half the recomended amount and he seems to be doing ok and is sleeping better. Does anyone know how long i should leave him before i up his solids to the full amount as i dont want to upset his stomach? Help greatly appreciated x

I started to wean my son at that age on the advice of my hv! My little boy was over 10lb when born and even the hungry baby milk didn't fill him up, so at 10 weeks my hv told me to get some baby rice and try to give 2 - 3 teaspoon fulls at lunchtime then after a week or so gradully increase it to 2 times a day etc. My little one never really liked the baby rice (have you tried it?) so we went straight on to pureed carrots and then apple & pear. Everybody was shocked I was weaning him so young, and I know it is not recommended until 4-6 months old, but I think sometimes some babies just need something else to fill them up. There is no way he could have survived on milk alone until he was 6 months old.

Babies shouldn't be weaned until at least 16 weeks. Their digestive system and kidneys aren't mature enough. Early weaning can cause allergies which my not show right away but later on in life

My 11 week old is always hungry to he has a 7oz bottle every 3- 4 hours and inbetween i give in a bottle of water which seems to help a little. I know the say that you can wean at 4 months the earlyest but you should try water or jucie before solids as it is very young to be on solid food for their digestive system.

It really does depend on your baby, its difficult to stick by what it said as it is changing all the time, it used to be 3 months you could wean at and now its six! so as long as you do it steadily and hes not having any bad reactions then you should be fine! good luck x

this is pretty young for weaning, the reason the professionals don't recommend weaning till 4/6 months is because there stomaches cant cope with solids and this can lead to allergies to other foods later in life. I maybe wouldn't up the amount until you have spoken with your health visitor.

Hi emma, Just wondered how your weaning went and what your uo to now? My son is now 13 weeks and hates baby rice, hes now 15lbs but by no means fat as is still in size 2 nappies. He now has 1/3 jar of pureed fruit for breakfast and 1/3 of a jar for lunch and is now so happy, hes cut down his milk intake to a safe level as he was havin 70 oz a dayn and sleeps much better. Did you encounter a lot of critisism when you started weaning as i have had a lot of really nasty comments about not caring and being a bad mother. Could you give me any advice on where to go from here and how long I should leave it before introducing a new meal or increasing the ones he already has? Many thanks Hayley

my little rubie is 11 weeks old and for her breakfast she has some baby rice and an 8oz bottle of second milk, her dinner time is an 8 oz bottle of second milk, her next feed is half a jar of baby food and a 8oz bottle and around 8ish she has half a rusk mixed with two oz of water in an 8oz bottle and falls asleep within the hour and sleeps a full twelve hours xx i been slowly bringing her up on solids for the past three months and shes been fine. she loves the hienz puree and simple carrot, pumpkin and potato and her favourite drink wirth her meals is hipp organic fennel tea, she has a fiveoz bottle of it in three hours! she isnt over wieght or anything. i just think that some babes are ready for solids earlier than others x just go with the flow and what you feels is right.
