Bathing Nightmare!
30/08/2008

My daughter has just turned 2 and recently trying to bath her and wash her hair it is just a nightmare. When washing her hair she goes mad and has even got that worked up she has been sick. I keep being told that it is just a phase, but it is getting to the point where i am finding it very hard! Any ideas on how i can try and make it easier for her and me would be great!

Hi Just wanted so say dont give up I had the same trouble with my son and we percevered and now he asks to have a bath and loves it. I did enrol him in a water confidence course and start taking him swimming and then bath time became swim time. It did take time but by making it fun and continually reassuring him that the water would not hurt him we did get there, We got lots of toys that squirt water and gently got him to squirt himself all over his body until he worked his way up to his face. I also got one of those hats that fit over the head but leave the hair exposed so I could wash his hair without any water going down his face which made hair washing a lot easier. He has come on really well and has now just got his 10 metre swimming badge and this from a child that two years ago would not even sit down in the bath. Good luck and your not alone

Hi! I am having the same problem with hair washing on my 26 month old, we have bought a special jug thing from mothercare to wash his hair but he still freaks out! we got a bathtime bubble making machine from tesco for 6.99- but amazon sell them too, it suckers on the bathroom wall and sprays bubbles all round the bathroom. This has solved the problem of getting him into the bath but does'nt distract him enough to do his hair. However we are going to try telling him the bubbles will only come out when he is all clean! Hopefully little white lies will work wonders! Hope this helps- i dread bathtime!! x
