Weaning
04/09/2008

Have just started weaning my 6 month old little girl over the last week and a half but don't think its going too well. She seems to love things like banana and pear and apple mixed together but having a problem with vegetables. I started her off on carrot for a few days and she took a tiny bit but wasn't happy with it and she's also had sweet potato and pretty much reacted the same. Even with the fruit she only takes 2 teaspoon fulls at very most - is this normal or should I speak to my health visitor?

same as my little girl. Been weaning her for a month. In a nutshell, she prefers 'proper' food to the baby jars and wouldn't entertain the powder food! She doesn't like pureed broccoli but is happy to suck on a floret so texture obviously makes a difference. Sometime she eats lots and others she has a couple of spoonfuls. She started weaning at six months, which is the recommended time but, just as some babies need to start earlier, others don't need it until a bit later. The only thing you need to warch is if they are breastfed, as Grace is, iron stores in the body begin to deplete so try to ensure you get some iron into your babyXX Good luck and enjoy the mess!!

Thanks Tracey - will keep on persevering! Its "proper" food I'm giving her as well. She's bottlefed and has never been a great eater so might just take her a little longer x
